In 1866, Ebenezer Bowditch started the Millwood Hunt Club with hounds imported
from England and a group of eager equestrians. The Millwood Hunt Club thrived for
over a century; the oldest hunt club in New England and the third oldest in the nation.
The hunt disbanded in 1969 and its remaining 90 acres were sold. Grovecrest Farm
sits today in the middle of those 90 acres; between a dairy farm and horse farm and
adjacent to over 800 acres of state forest and conservation land with numerous trails
for jogging, hiking, cross-country skiing and riding.
